ASTM WK78591 / IBHS
This test standard provides a procedure to evaluate the impact resistance of construction roof assemblies of asphalt shingles. The purpose of this standard is to determine relative performance among asphalt shingles, and their potential performance when exposed to natural hailstones.

The impacts are evaluated and compared to minimum requirements for the purpose of determining a classification of Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, or Class 4.
UL 2218
A test standard which evaluates the impact resistance performance property of new roof covering materials. Steel balls are dropped from the specified heights at constructed roof assemblies. The impacted locations are evaluated to determine a roof covering material's resistance to specified impact energies. The impacts are evaluated and compared to minimum requirements for the purpose of determining a classification of Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, or Class 4.
